It's Me! Award-Winning Dining Room Transformation
It's Me! Award-Winning Dining Room Transformation
This dining room transformation was inspired by a treasured remnant of vintage silk in the vibrant colors of turquoise, green, and purple, a fragment which had belonged to the client's mother. The client desired a warm and gracious area for entertaining, a room where guests would want to linger around the dining table. The room needed to be elegant enough for special occasions, and relaxed enough for spontaneous gatherings.
Too fragile to be used another way, the hand-blocked silk was carefully framed, working around a few damaged areas. The completed room included additional works of art in ceramics, glass, tile and mixed media, purchased to complement the colors of the framed silk, and a combination of existing and new furnishings. A boat shaped Stickley table worked in the compact space while allowing room for the centerpiece: a Raku pot with metallic versions of the silk colors. Hancock and Moore dining chairs in a crushed purple velvet provide comfort for leisurely lingering at the table. A warm green grasscloth, with hints of a metallic background, wraps the room in cozy color.
The custom window treatment was inspired by a dress with extensive ruching in Threads magazine. The pleats in the silk cornice catch the light differently as you move in the room, creating a dynamic dance of light and shadow. Clear crystal beads at the hem of the upholstered cornice soften the lower edge, and catch the movement of light by day and night. Hunter Douglas Silhouettes provide a soft filtered daytime view and nighttime privacy at the window.

The client's response to her completed home was summed up in this way: "Linda, I know you had a hand in it, but when I come home, it's Me!"
