Mission Accomplished! Award-Winning Arts and Crafts Style Bedroom
This Master Bedroom for an Arts and Crafts era collector began with an empty room and bookcase room divider crafted to separate a large master bedroom into a bedroom space and a sitting room, still under construction when I began to work with my client.
Accessory and furniture placement, paint color, area rugs, a Jessica Charles swivel chair upholstered in a Stroheim arts and crafts design fabric, cornices in an embroidered Kravet silk, drapery panels in silk matka, and room darkening cellular shades for the bedroom compose the custom elements of this collector's bedroom. The project also included advising them on their plans for a custom bed made by the New Roycrofter's Guild, to have a taller headboard. Custom bedding and pillows for the bed were fabricated after the bed arrived.
This project was awarded second place in Whole Room Integration at the 2008 International Window Coverings Expo Envision Design competition. Noted by the judges as exceptional was my original window treatment design, the Ellis Cornice, inspired by the Stickley furniture designs of Harvey Ellis. The wood pieces were crafted to my specifications by the same master carpenter who constructed the room divider, in the identical stain and finish.
